Question 1

What is a tower hazer?

Accepted Answer

A tower hazer, usually just called a 'hazer', is a carriage that wraps around your tower and carries your antenna. A haul cable runs from the hazer up to the top of the tower and down to a winch at ground level, so you can raise and lower your antenna without climbing. 413 Built builds aluminum hazers for Rohn 20/25 and Rohn 45 towers.

Question 2

What is an antenna lowering system?

Accepted Answer

An antenna lowering system is any setup that lets you bring your antenna down from a tower without climbing. A hazer is one type of antenna lowering system: a carriage that rides the tower and carries your antenna up and down using a winch and cable. With a lowering system in place, you handle tuning, service, and adjustments from the ground.

Question 3

How does a hazer work?

Accepted Answer

A hazer clamps onto the legs of your tower and holds your antenna. A haul cable runs from the hazer up to the top of the tower and back down to a winch at ground level. When you turn the winch, the cable pulls the hazer and your antenna up the tower; releasing it lowers the hazer back down. You control the whole thing from the ground.

Question 4

What exactly is a hazer?

Accepted Answer

A hazer is an antenna elevator system. It's a mechanical carriage that mounts on your tower and holds your antenna. Instead of fixing your antenna to a single point on the tower, the hazer lets it travel up and down the full height. You control it from the ground using a winch system.

Question 5

Who is this built for?

Accepted Answer

CB and HAM operators running Rohn towers. If you've got a Rohn 20, 25, or 45 tower and you're tired of climbing every time something needs attention up top, a hazer is the answer.

Question 6

Do I still need to climb at all?

Accepted Answer

You'll still need to climb for the initial installation and to route the haul cable. After that's done, you can raise and lower the antenna from the ground indefinitely without going up.

Question 7

What's the difference between the Rohn 20/25 hazer and the Rohn 45 hazer?

Accepted Answer

The Rohn 20/25 hazer is built for Rohn 20 and 25 tower sections and comes in both beam and ground plane variants. The Rohn 45 hazer is scaled up for the heavier, wider Rohn 45 tower and handles larger antenna loads. Both are aluminum, bolt-on, and ground-operated with a winch.

Question 8

Do 413 Built hazers work on towers other than Rohn?

Accepted Answer

Our hazers are built specifically for Rohn 20/25 and Rohn 45 tower sections. If you have a different tower or a modified section, reach out before ordering and we will talk through whether we can make it work.

Question 9

Are hazers only intended to be used with a beam antenna?

Accepted Answer

Not at all. We build hazers for both beam antennas and ground plane antennas. The Rohn 20/25 hazer is available in both configurations — just make sure you tell us which style you need when you reach out.

Question 10

What tower sizes do your hazers fit?

Accepted Answer

We build hazers for Rohn 20/25 and Rohn 45 tower sections. Each unit is specifically designed for that tower's leg spacing and profile.

Question 11

Is the Winch Box included with a hazer kit?

Accepted Answer

No — the 413 Built Winch Box is a standalone product. It's designed to pair with our hazer kits, but it's ordered separately.

Question 12

Can the hazer handle a heavy antenna?

Accepted Answer

The Rohn 45 hazer is built to handle larger loads. If you've got a particularly heavy setup, reach out and describe what you're working with.

Question 13

Will it fit my specific tower configuration?

Accepted Answer

Our hazers are built for standard Rohn tower sections. If you have modified sections, get in touch before ordering so we can confirm fitment.

Question 14

How do I raise and lower my antenna without climbing the tower?

Accepted Answer

Once a 413 Built hazer is installed, you raise and lower your antenna from the ground using a winch, we offer an electric winch, but 413 Built Hazers work with all hand crank winches! The hazer travels the full height of your tower, so you can bring the antenna down for tuning, service, or adjustments, then send it back up. After the initial installation, you don't climb to adjust your antenna.

Question 15

Do I need a winch to operate a hazer?

Accepted Answer

Yes, a winch is what raises and lowers the hazer. 413 Built offers an electric winch box for fast, effortless operation, but our hazers also work with standard hand crank winches. You can start with a hand crank and upgrade to the electric winch box later.

Question 16

Can I install a hazer myself, or do I need a professional installer?

Accepted Answer

If you are comfortable doing basic tower work, you can install a 413 Built hazer yourself. It is a bolt-on system with no welding or permanent modifications to your tower. The initial install does require climbing to mount the hazer and route the haul cable, so follow safe climbing practices or work with someone who does.

Question 17

How hard is it to install?

Accepted Answer

Straightforward for anyone comfortable doing basic tower work. It's a bolt-on installation — no welding, no permanent modifications. The carriage clamps onto the tower legs, you route the haul cable, connect the winch, and you're done.

Question 18

Does it permanently modify my tower?

Accepted Answer

No. It's a bolt-on system. If you ever need to remove it, you can take it off and your tower is back to its original state.

Question 19

Can I use my existing winch?

Accepted Answer

You might be able to, depending on your setup. The 413 Built Winch Box is purpose-built to work with our hazers. If you want to use an existing winch, get in touch and we'll talk through it.

Question 20

Is there a manual that comes with it?
